This facility received a quality overall score as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Contributing to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received a superb long-term care score. We awarded them a dominant strong of A in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. This place also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.21 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a substantially better hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.

Turning to the area of nursing care, this was not one of this facility's strong suits. We awarded it a grade of D in this category. Clearly, this facility performed much better in the categories discussed above. When computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we weigh the amount of time nurses are seeing residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place was above average in two of the major statistics we considered, with solid marks for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

The next category we rated is short-term care, which ended up being this facility's weakest area. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a bit of a concern. Short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 31.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
