Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We want to point out that this nursing home really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in that area with a grade of A+. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area generally have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given favorable long-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more impressive grades in that category, with a grade of B. This turned out to be the nursing home's second strongest score. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 98.56115 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. The nursing grade includes quite a few datapoints, many of which are based on nursing hours. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Switching gears to the fourth area, this facility received an acceptable short-term care grade of C. Short-term care grades are generally used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, we were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
