Long-term Care Quality
While we did not have many favorable things to say about this nursing home's overall score, it did receive a slightly better long-term care rating of B-. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 90.34749 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points below what we were hoping for. The last statistic we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 1.99 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is also below the national average.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of B- in the area. Our nursing rating is largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this nursing home did not rank highly in terms of nursing hours per resident, it performed much better in some of the quality measures we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this facility fared better than the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
The third most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In forming our short-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place was respectable in this area with 45.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home did not receive a favorable inspection grade. We gave it a just D in this category. Inspection grades relate to a nursing home's government inspection reports. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. We recommend you pay close attention to the severity of those deficiencies. This particular facility had 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 2 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
