Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Long-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we gave this facility a grade of C for its long-term care rating, which is not too bad of a score. In determining our long-term care grades, we look at the assistance with daily living offered to a nursing home's patients. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. Unfortunately, this facility vaccinated just 40.076336 percent of its residents for pneumonia. The last datapoint we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.99 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is also below the national average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. The nursing grade includes several factors, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home offered only 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is well below average. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this place was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded is short-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this category. Our short-term care ratings are considered to be more meaningful for residents needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. In this nursing home's case, it looks like it provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 40 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
