Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Even though we gave this nursing home a terrible overall score, we awarded it a B- for our nursing rating. We weighed the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with patients, in calculating our score in this category. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

As it turns out, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which ended up being one of its better category scores. Facilities that do not fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 35.316696 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this facility's third highest category was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to create a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. With a score this poor in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this facility was below average in the two key staffing metrics we assess. It supplied far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

The final category we looked at was inspections. Unfortunately, this ended up being this facility's weakest link. We gave it a D in this category. Since this data is collected by government inspectors, we weight it heavily in our assessment. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. Generally, you should be especially cautious when considering a facility with severe deficiencies on a recent inspection report. This nursing home had 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a risk to resident safety or health. Finally, we also want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed significant government fines in recent years in excess of $50,000. This generally means that government inspectors became frustrated after multiple years of bad government inspections.
