Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Our inspection scores are tied to several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
This facility received high scores in our nursing category as well. In fact, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with a score of B-. Our nursing score is mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. This nursing home performed admirably in this subcategory.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. In that category, we gave this nursing home a C. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 41.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was long-term care, ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that category. This really was one of the few weak links on an otherwise impressive profile. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in this category may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other nursing homes provide. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 85.16129 percent of its patients. This is quite a bit less than the national average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.16 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
