Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection score. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave it a grade of A. Inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's better category grades came in the category of short-term care. This proved to be its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this facility a B-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. Nursing grades are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This facility provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is long-term care. For this category, we gave this nursing home a C. Long-term care grades focus on a nursing home's personal care rather than the highly skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were optimistic to learn that this nursing home vaccinates 98.56115 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
