Facility Inspections
Although we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an D. There are a host of criteria included in this grade. Many of the datapoints are tied to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's third best category is short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat badly. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Given its poor grade in this area, we weren't stunned to find that this place provided substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a poor grade. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
