Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it a grade of B for our inspections category. This grade is far better than the facility's overall grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
The second best area we awarded this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is generally a solid assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. It fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 53.3 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also considered some quality-based assessments. This place performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home outpaced the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the last category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D for our long-term care category. This is the nursing home's worst category score. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
