Facility Inspections
The main reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we also wanted to point out that this facility was given favorable short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with a B. This proved to be the facility's second best score. Short-term care grades are typically used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care provided.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored is long-term care. In this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C. Our long-term care scores are more meaningful for individuals needing more traditional assistance associated with personal care. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We found that this nursing home vaccinated only 30.877192 percent of its residents, which is several points lower than we expected. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
