Long-term Care Quality
This facility received an elite long-term care rating. In fact, we gave this facility an A in this category, which bumped up its overall score. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 96.498055 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.48 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, our nursing ratings also consider some quality-focused measures. We look at the percentage of patients who experienced pressure ulcers and major falls. These datapoints are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is short-term care. We awarded this facility a D in the area of short-term care, rendering this the nursing home's weakest grade. Short-term care grades are generally employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. It looks like this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the data we considered. The final measure we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 32.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care grade.
