Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being an elite facility overall, this facility also performed well in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared this well in this category. Inspection scores are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out the fact that this facility performed well in our long-term care category. We awarded them an elite grade of A+ in this category. When facilities receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to the last area, this nursing home also performed admirably in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a grade of B+ for that category. This topped off a very strong profile. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is generally a solid assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
