Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this proved to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive long-term care score. In fact, this was its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of A. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 54.826256 percent of its residents. This is somewhat lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The last category we looked at is short-term care, where this facility was given a grade of B+. This rounded out an elite profile. Only a select few facilities earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. Short-term care scores are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
