Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. Few facilities performed better in this category. Our short-term care grades are critical for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This facility excelled in two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility provided about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than the typical nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 73.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few places to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This grade is based on the place's inspections. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next category, this facility received an excellent long-term care score. In fact, it received a grade of A in that area. For residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We weren't able to locate this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to our last area, this nursing home also excelled in the nursing category. In fact, we gave it an A for that area. This completed a straight A profile. Nursing grades are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided 5.8 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by both of these statistics. In addition to providing high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any facility in the nation in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these areas as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care being provided.
