Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received an A+ short-term care grade. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most important for individuals in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires more skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. This score is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Kentucky in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning residents more frequently.

The next category we analyzed is long-term care, in which this facility received a C. This was this facility's weakest area. This is still nothing to be ashamed of. Long-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of nursing services. This means a broad range of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine medical services. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.181816 percent of its patients, which is somewhat less than we were hoping for. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
