Registered Staff Hours
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home earned a strong overall score as described above, but we wanted to emphasize its excellent long-term care rating. We gave them a grade of A- in this category. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an B+. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspections. Facilities that excel in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't something to panic about.

Nurse Quality
This facility is also strong in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. Nursing grades are mostly tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our fourth area, this facility was awarded a C for short-term care, which we consider to be an acceptable grade. Our short-term care scores are crucial for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
