We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in this area with an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

In addition, we also wanted to point out that this nursing home was given positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We awarded them one of our better grades in this area, with a B. This proved to be the nursing home's second strongest score. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 96.02273 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as impressive as some of its other scores in this category, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

This nursing home also received a strong grade in our nursing category. We awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B in this area. We looked at the licensure of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with residents, in calculating our rating in this area. This place provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is an impressive statistic which typically corresponds with higher quality care. Finally, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents sustaining falls leading to serious injury, this facility performed better than the national average. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final area we graded was short-term care. We gave this facility a D for the area of short-term care, leaving this as the facility's least impressive grade. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. We found that this facility was below average in one of the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered fewer registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The last item we considered in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 24.9 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
