Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our short-term care category. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This category is typically a solid measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition, this facility also received a nearly flawless government inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that area with an A. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we analyzed is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B-. Although this proved to be its weakest category rating, this is nevertheless not a poor grade. In computing our long-term care ratings, we scrutinize the personal care received by a nursing home's residents. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 99.66888 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
