Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. This facility's vaccination data weren't as favorable as its nursing hours. This facility gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 89.70589 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement in this area next year. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections. We gave it a grade of B+ for that category. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was short-term care. This nursing home was awarded an impressive short-term care grade, with a B in this area. In our short-term care score, we try to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who returned home from the facility. This place performed respectably with 46.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the next category, this facility was awarded a respectable nursing score. Although this is not quite as elite as a few of its other category grades, this is still nothing to be ashamed of. In determining a facility's nursing score, we consider the amount of time nurses are caring for patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which was among the higher totals we found. Lastly, we also factored some quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as good indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
