Long-term Care Quality
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility received an excellent long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. We analyzed the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored proved to be this facility's poorest area. Nevertheless, even in its weakest link we still gave it a respectable grade of B- in our short-term care category. Our short-term care grade is commonly used to judge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. It does not look like this nursing home submitted data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
