Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this place a bad overall rating, we awarded it a fairly respectable grade in the category of inspections, where we gave it a B-. This was quite a bit better than its other category grades. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of the deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing ratings are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Finally, while this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next most favorable category was its short-term care score, where it was given a B-. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is often a solid assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. In this facility's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the final area, we awarded this nursing home a D for long-term care. This was the nursing home's weakest category score. Facilities that don't fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 93.0657 percent of its residents, which is slightly lower than we anticipated. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
