Facility Inspections
On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ health inspections recently. Its inspections are nearly flawless. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was awarded an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few facilities to be awarded several A+ category grades. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After assessing the very impressive nursing hours provided by this facility, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. In determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we assess the amount of time nurses are with patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility boasts a really impressive 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient each day, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the higher totals of nursing hours we found at any facility. On top of offering high levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With below 5 percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be prevented by offering better nursing care and having a protocol of moving patients even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
In our last area, this nursing home also was awarded an impressive short-term care grade, with a grade of A. This rounded out a straight A report card. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this nursing home's favorable grade in this area is it offers more care from registered nurses to its patients than the typical nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. It outperformed the vast majority of facilities in this area with 57.1 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
