Our inspection ratings are based on several items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

To complement its impressive achievements in other areas, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care rating. Short-term care grades are vital for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 61.4 percent of its residents returning home.

Turning our next category, we gave this nursing home a grade of A- for our long-term care rating. This is a dominant rating. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a deadly ailment for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not take any chances. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

Moving on to our fourth area, this facility also performed admirably in the nursing category. We gave it a grade of B+ for this area. This finalized a very strong profile. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
