Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well overall, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best grades in that category with a grade of A+. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its first-rate achievements in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its short-term care grade. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other types of therapists. This area is generally a solid assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in this area with 66.7 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility is also strong in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of B+. It performed more favorably than most nursing homes in this category. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. This nursing home's vaccination statistics weren't as favorable some of the other datapoints in this category, such as its number of nursing hours per resident. This nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to just 56.410255 percent of its residents. We'd love to see some improvement in this area next year. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next area we analyzed was this facility's worst area. However, even its lowest point would actually be a strength for most facilities. We gave it a favorable grade of B for our nursing category. The nursing grade weighs many subcategories. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This place provided 4.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is among the more impressive totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these statistics. On top of looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
