Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its decent overall grade, we awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall rating. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an B-. Our nursing category analyzes many components, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in a few of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this subcategory. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of turning patients at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this facility a solid score in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 99.34426 percent of its patients against pneumonia. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we scored was short-term care. This facility was awarded a grade of C for the area. In determining our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This score is frequently a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final item we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
