Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade is not a highlight, it actually received a slightly more favorable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for that area, which is a decent score. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Our nursing rating weighs quite a few subcategories, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a relatively low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, our nursing ratings also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its residents.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area ended up being short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to assess a facility's rehabilitation services In order to have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we graded is long-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of B- in this area. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
