Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a quality facility overall, this place really excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. This is really what you like to see on an inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility also was awarded a strong short-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of C in this category. While this wasn't quite as good as some of its other category grades, this isn't a bad score either. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, nursing scores also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last category is long-term care, where we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in that area. Long-term care grades are used to judge a nursing home's performance as a traditional nursing home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a skilled nursing facility. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
