Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Moving on to the area of long-term care, this facility received a grade of just D in this area. As it turns out, this wound up being one of its better features. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.74683 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.76 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

This nursing home wound up receiving a an abysmal grade in our short-term care category. It was given an F in this category. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. With a score in this range in this area, we weren't shocked to learn this place was well below average in the two key staffing figures we focus on. In fact, it offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.

The last category we rated is nursing. This nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that area. Our nursing rating analyzes several components, but the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged a meager 1.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This number is quite a bit below average. To go along with its low total nursing hours per resident, this place had really poor scores in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining falls leading to major injury. This place was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is quite concerning in light of the fact that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of receiving a poor nursing rating.
