Even though we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care grade this year. We gave it a B- in that category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. One of this place's strengths is that it offers more hours of care from registered nurses to its residents. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 44.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

We were also surprised to find that this nursing home earned a solid long-term care grade in our assessment. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care ratings. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.39 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some facilities due to the preexisting medical conditions of patients.

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our nursing grade includes numerous subcategories. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This place provided just 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is a relatively low figure. Nevertheless, more than a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing care, which we weight more in our nursing ratings. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. This place was subpar in two of the major areas we look at, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are usually decent indicators of the quality of nursing care offered.

Moving on our final category of inspections, this facility received an abysmal grade. You should pay special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection score. We recommend you pay close attention to the level of severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 4 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 2 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
