Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving residents even once per day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of B+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a middle of the road score in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Short-term care scores are meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final area we assessed is long-term care. We gave this nursing home a B- in this area. Long-term care grades assess a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 65.76577 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
