Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we gave this place a poor overall grade, we gave it a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. This is due to the facility receiving a decent government inspection report this year. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is generally best to avoid facilities that had a long list of severe deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the category of short-term care, this facility was awarded just a D in this category. Unfortunately, this proved to be one of its better grades. In computing these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Given its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the data we looked at. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home ended up receiving a rock-bottom score in our long-term care category. It received a lowly F in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated only 70.16807 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home really did not perform well in this category either. With a bottom of the barrel grade of F in nursing, this is about as bad as it gets. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. With a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
