Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this place also earned first-rate health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our best grades in this area, with a grade of A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite insignificant. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Nursing ratings are mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility offers an impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is among the more impressive totals in the country. Finally, this place was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our third category, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its long-term care rating. This is an above average grade in this area. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to really impressive nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination record was as good as it gets also. Indeed, this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. The last statistic we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the road in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we rated is short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility an acceptable grade of B-. This proved to be this facility's weakest category. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 23.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually below the national average.
