Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home excelled at short-term care, with an A- in this area. This really propped up its overall score. Short-term care grades are generally used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ in our nursing category. This is one of our better grades. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facilities next most favorable area was long-term care. We gave it a C in this category. This is basically a slightly below average grade in this category. Our long-term care grades are more critical for patients in need of more conventional assistance associated with personal care. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 96.58634 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This nursing home was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

The final category we looked at is inspections. Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F in this category. Since this information is compiled by independent government inspectors, we tend to heavily weight a poor performance in this area. This really pulled down this facility's overall grade. When a nursing home has this poor of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This facility was hit with 9 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we want to point out that this facility was assessed large government fines totaling over $100,000. This typically signifies that a nursing home's bad performance has been an issue for several years.
