In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. It does not look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Our inspection ratings are based on many pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that excel in this category have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Long-term Care Quality
The third highest area we gave this facility in any area came in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. In forming these long-term care scores, we assess the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 94.4186 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The final category we rated was nursing, which ended up being a weak spot for this nursing home. We gave this facility a D in our nursing category. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. On top of rating below average in nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also had poor marks in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in both of these data points. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These metrics pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
