Facility Inspections
Although we gave this nursing home a horrible overall score, we gave it an A- for our inspections rating. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. This place received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note this facility's unfortunate long-term care grade where it was given an F. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 75 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this facility's poor nursing grade where it received an F. Nursing ratings are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home averaged only 0.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is short-term care, where this nursing home received an abysmal grade in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. With a grade this poor for this category, we weren't stunned to learn that this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
