Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this place's overall performance, it did receive an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that have a long list of severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The next highest area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of B-. Our long-term care grade assesses a nursing home's assistance with daily living rather than the skilled therapy or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 94.80122 percent of its patients. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Our third category we looked at was short-term care, in which this facility was given an F. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Given its grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this facility was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded was nursing, in which this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel score here also. It received a lowly F in this area, which is obviously somewhat alarming. Our nursing grade includes several data points. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
