Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection grade. Its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
The second most favorable area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. Short-term care grades are generally employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To have good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a decent grade in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The next area we assessed was nursing. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is a very poor score. This is certainly a significant concern. When calculating our nursing scores, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This facility was above average in two of the statistics we considered, with solid scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These metrics are often good measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
