Facility Inspections
While we didn't give this place a good overall score, we did give it a relatively strong grade in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of B+. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid places that had too many deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this place still received a relatively positive inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category scores was in the category of long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.59649 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 4.06 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this number may be skewed for some facilities due to some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded its third highest category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area, which is a respectable score. Our short-term care ratings are critical for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The last measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. It fared well in this metric with 59.7 percent of its residents returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we looked at was nursing, in which this facility received a bottom of the barrel score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F for this category, which is obviously a major concern. When calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This particular place offered a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This statistic is significantly below the national average. This facility also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hours. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign in light of the fact that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing score significantly.
