Although this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it did receive a very good score in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. This place was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. There are several factors included in this grade. Many of the factors relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is not an impressive total. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

We gave this facility just a D for our short-term care score. This is not a very good score. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With its abysmal score in this area, we weren't stunned to learn this place provides far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.

The last category we graded is long-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 94.09091 percent of its residents, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
