This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially wanted to point out its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave it an impressive grade of A in this category. Our inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category generally have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. We gave it an B in that category. Our nursing grade is largely tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients even once per day.

This nursing home received its third best category score in the area of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area, which is an acceptable grade. Our short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.1 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

The final area we rated is long-term care. We awarded it a C in this area. This is not a bad grade in this area. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we size up the personal care received by a facility's residents. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the vaccine to a relatively low 90.59561 percent of its residents. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
