Nurse Quality

Grade: C

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we assess the number of hours nurses are caring for patients and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is not an impressive total. Finally, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did very well in this area.

Facility Inspections

Grade: C

As it turns out, its inspection reports were not the source of this facility's bottom of the barrel overall grade. In fact, it earned a C in this category. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility had 5 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but fortunately none were category G through L deficiencies. This tells you this facility dodged the more ominous categories of deficiencies. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's second lowest category was long-term care, where it earned just a D in that area. This is a well below average score. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the place is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility provided the vaccine to just 88.40125 percent of its patients, which is not a very encouraging sign. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst category was short-term care, which is the last area we analyzed. For this category, we gave this nursing home a D. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most meaningful for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Given its grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
