Facility Inspections
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our higher scores in that area, with a grade of A. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively insignificant. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this facility a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive grades. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the criteria we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 99.10714 percent of its patients. This is a proven method to avoid negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded a grade of just D in that category. In determining these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home offers far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's least impressive area is nursing, which is the final area we analyzed. In this area, we gave this facility a D. The nursing score is based on several components, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at approximately 150 percent of the national average in this metric. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic really pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade significantly.
