Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really excelled in our short-term care rating, where it earned an A. Our short-term care grades are based in part on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Pennsylvania in this area with 62.9 percent of its patients returning home. At most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Turning to another one of this facility's strengths, it also earned a very impressive inspection rating. Inspections proved to be one of its best category grades. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. We would like to have more information about this nursing home. Without all of the deficiency data, it is a challenge to grade this facility in this category.
Nurse Quality
In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. Our nursing grade looks at the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This was one of the highest figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this nursing home outpaced the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at ended up being this nursing home's weakest area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it an acceptable grade of C for our long-term care category. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. After considering the above average volume of nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 98.945145 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than many nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.46 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
