One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

An additional reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it was given an A+ short-term care score. This is flat out as elite as it gets in this category. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. We looked at the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this category. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Moving on to the fourth category, this nursing home was given an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in this category, rounding out a straight A profile. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
