Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Although this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually didn't perform as badly in nursing. In fact, we gave it a B- for that area. Nursing grades are primarily tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This facility averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Lastly, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics. While this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric. This can be a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of turning patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We were also stunned to discover that this nursing home received a reasonably solid long-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. If you are looking for anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.69879 percent of its patients, which is a very solid statistic. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in that area. Short-term care scores are important for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this place provides substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical nursing home. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home did not receive a favorable inspection grade. We gave it just a just D in this category. Inspection grades relate to a facility's inspection reports. Inspection grades factor in many items on the nursing home's inspection reports. If you see too many deficiencies on the inspection reports, this is generally the worst sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular facility was hit with 6 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
