Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of short-term care, this facility was given a grade of just D in this area. Sadly, this wound up being its second best grade. In forming these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Given its poor score in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
In our next category, we gave this facility an F in the category of long-term care. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 75.9887 percent of its residents. This is quite a bit below average. Surprisingly, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best score in this category.
Nurse Quality
The last category we assessed was nursing. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is a very poor grade. Our nursing rating is mostly tied to the facility's nurse staffing. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. This facility also had abysmal scores in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers. This facility was at more than double the national average in this statistic. This is concerning when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the nursing home's fate of earning a very weak nursing rating.
