Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Although we didn't rate this nursing home favorably overall, we gave it an excellent grade in the area of short-term care, where it received an A. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

We also gave this facility a strong grade in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of B. This is better than most nursing homes in this category. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for patients and the level of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: D

This nursing home received a grade of just D in the area of inspections. Inspection scores factor in many items found on the facility's recent inspection reports. If you see severe deficiencies on the inspection reports, this is typically the worst sign. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to resident safety. This particular nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they created a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we also want to point out that this nursing home received significant government fines amounting to more than $100,000. This generally signifies that a facility's bad performance has been an issue for several years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a poor score in this category as well. It received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. For patients in need of a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 99.2674 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
