Facility Inspections

Grade: B

This facility's overall grade was propped up by the fact that it has received favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it a strong score in this area, with a grade of B. This is a much better score than the nursing home's overall grade. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better grades in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had a generally positive view of this nursing home's recent inspections.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this facility a strong score in short-term care. This facility received a grade of B in this area, which turns out to be one of our more favorable scores. Short-term care grades are meaningful for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. It doesn't look like this nursing home provided registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

An additional reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned an A+ nursing score. Our nursing rating analyzes several subcategories, however, the paramount consideration is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of turning patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we graded is long-term care, which is this nursing home's worst category. We awarded this facility a D in this category. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
