Facility Inspections
To pair with its favorable overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
Among this nursing home's other achievements is its first-rate short-term care score. It received one of our better grades in that category, with a grade of A-. Our short-term care grades are probably most meaningful for patients needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. It fared better than most facilities in the nation with 52 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. The nursing score includes quite a few subcategories, however, the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these metrics as predictive indicators of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth category, this nursing home was awarded a decent long-term care score. Although this is not quite as dominant as some of its other category grades, this is still not a bad grade. In determining our long-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.47 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
