Facility Inspections
In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so well is that it received a dominant long-term care score. Indeed, long-term care turned out to be its second best category score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a score of A-. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is a good sign for resident care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.273254 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.78 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with residents, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also weigh quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed better than average in this area. This is often a reliable measure of how carefully a place's nursing staff is tending to its patients. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and superior safety protocols are used.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. This nursing home received a C for this area. In forming our short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.
