Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. Inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received a great nursing grade. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A-. Nursing grades are largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

The next category we graded was long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a B-. In calculating our long-term care grades, we scrutinize the personal care offered to the facility's residents. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 98.568016 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we scored is short-term care. This facility was awarded a C for the area. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
