Although we were not complementary of this place's overall performance, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B+. Our inspection ratings are tied to several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This facility's short-term care rating ended up being one of its respectable grades. The facility was given a B- in this category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. We found that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. The last item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. It fared much better in this metric with 65.5 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. Our nursing score is largely based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below the national average. This nursing home also had terrible scores in some of the quality-based metrics to pair with its weak nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and we were disappointed. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores could be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this facility's nursing rating quite a bit.

The next category we assessed is long-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this category. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.26776 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Although it had 1.72 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score wasn't bad since it had some more complex patients.
